Parking Lot Mass Announcement

My friends,

These continue to be very trying times and it seems when we need the Sacraments and our Church community the most, we are sadly unable to do so.  In an effort to alleviate this situation to some degree we are going to have an “outdoor Mass’ next Sunday, July 12 at 8:00 am. You will attend Mass from your cars where you will have air conditioning.  We will also provide a small number of chairs with liberal social distancing for those who feel up to handling the Yuma summer heat and would be willing to wear masks.  Holy Communion will be available after the final prayer.  There will also be our usual 9:00 am live-stream Mass, with Holy Communion following.

This is certainly not how we would choose to celebrate Sunday Liturgy and we hope to return to a more normal celebration soon.  Please stay in contact through the SJN Website, Facebook, and Flocknote.   If you are not signed up for Flocknote please call the office and take advantage of this communication service.  Those who do not have Internet or choose not to use the Internet, please check in with the office at least once or twice a week for updates.  Things change quickly and I want everyone to have the current news.

God Bless each of you and please stay safe.

Fr. George

Hello everyone,

For those of you who may not know our Bishop has again suspended all public masses.  I will not go over the details of his decision as they can be found on the Diocesan website.  This is terrible news and makes a difficult situation even more difficult.

I am sure that all of you are extremely disappointed.  Many don’t understand why and are frustrated. Some may be angry perhaps very angry. There is no spin I can put on this to change the way you feel. We know that Jesus warns us that we will have to pick up and carry our cross if we are to follow him, But I for one didn’t ever expect to carry this kind of cross.

All I can ask is that we continue to trust in our Lord’s promise: “I am with you even to the end of time”

So… We return to phase 1 protocols and for this weekend:

1.         We will return to live streaming ONLY Mass at 9:00 AM on Sunday.

2.         The Eucharist available immediately following outside the church.

3.         Confessions will not be available this week while we work on a plan for providing for them in the future.

4.         We will also be looking into a parking lot Adoration, with parishioners remaining in their cars for air-conditioning, Yuma’s heat is always an issue.

5.         Finally, this is a fluid situation and there will be changes as we go forward

Again, I am very sorry to have to break this kind of news. I ask that we help each other get through this and support each other in whatever ways we can. I am available by phone anytime you would like to talk with me. I welcome your questions, comments, and concerns.

You are a terrific community and while I would never choose to experience this situation, I am so grateful that I have all of you with me on the way.

May God be with all of us during this unprecedented and very painful time.

My friends,

As you probably know there has been a substantial spike in Covid-19 cases in our state and in particular Yuma.  Below is an update from our Bishop on the policy for the entire diocese.  I know that this will not make some of you happy, but I ask that we work together to get through this crisis.  I am always available to talk by phone about this or anything you are concerned with or just to vent.  Our Bishop will be updating policy as we watch the trend of Covid-19 infections.

God Bless each of you and your families.

Fr. George

  • I am not asking that Masses be canceled for the weekend of
    June 27-28.
  • I am directing you to inform your parishioners that face masks are now required for those over the age of five years unless a medical condition makes them impossible. They are no longer simply optional or strongly encouraged, they are now mandatory for all parishes.
